The flow of love in marriage

Even tho I know this, I so often forget it — which means that I still have need to actually live it , rather than just know it mentally.

Jesus fills me with His love, I need to pour it onto her.

The flow of love, in order to have a great marriage, is this:

1. Jesus loves me. He fulfills me and gives me love. He is the only source of love I need to feel worth, validation, and security.

2. I love my wife. Not just any kind of love, but with the kind of love that would make me willing to lay down my life for her.

That’s it. Done, nothing else to it.

Jesus fills me with His love, I need to pour it onto her.

A huge source of uncontent and conflict in my marriage has been due to the distortion of the flow of love. I stop seeking after Jesus and accepting his amazing love for me. Or I start putting the burden of fulfilling and validating me on my wife, something she is not made for nor able to fulfill — and wreckage grows in my heart and gets poured onto the marriage.

Jesus fills me with His love, I need to pour it onto her.

I am commanded to love her selflessly. It doesn’t have any requirements nor conditions, it doesn’t matter what she does nor makes me feel, I must love her. (Lookup Ephesians 5:25-29 )

Jesus fills me with His love, I need to pour it onto her.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
